Cannabis Commission Should be Allowed to “Self-Correct” Licensing Process

The status conference for the lawsuit against the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission took place at the Montgomery County Courthouse. More parties have now joined the case, including an applicant who was awarded a license.
Montgomery Circuit Judge James Anderson acknowledged the concerns raised by Sustainable Alabama but deemed them premature. The commission plans to void the awarded licenses and issue new ones at its August 10 meeting.
Counsel for a cultivator license applicant requested the lifting of the stay for “downstream licenses,” but Anderson found the motion premature.
John McMillan, director of the commission, confirmed that the scores were combined from both third-party evaluators and commissioners.
The commission aims to have a “big four accounting firm” analyze the scoring and plans to void the previous licenses on August 10.
