Woodville Man Charged with Murdering Mother Claims He was “Directed by Spirits”

Brian Jeffries, a 45-year-old man, was arrested and charged with the intentional murder of his mother earlier this year. The arrest took place on February 28, and a grand jury indicted him on March 28.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office discovered the lifeless body of 78-year-old Eddra Jeffries Jones inside a home on Kennamer Cove Drive. Court documents reveal that Jeffries killed his mother by striking her in the head with a hammer.
Concerns about Jeffries’ mental health have been raised, as his attorney requested an evaluation based on his statements made on the night of his arrest. Jeffries has a long history of serious mental health issues and has been committed for inpatient treatment in the past. During a bond hearing, Jeffries made statements indicating delusions, such as believing he was communicating with spirits and that Alexander the Great was God.
Jeffries was apprehended after a chase when he refused to stop his vehicle, which matched one owned by his mother. He is currently in custody at the Marshall County Jail without bond, and a motion hearing is scheduled for October 2.
