Repeat Offender Alabama Police Officer Sentenced Again, This Time It’s Assault, Menacing and Reckless Endangerment

Alabama does indeed appear to have “The Best Justice Money Can Buy”.
If you have a bit of trouble with trusting the Alabama Legal System, a north Alabama police officer, Max Ryan Dotson, has now been sentenced to two years in a county jail on assault, menacing, and reckless endangerment charges.
Dotson, a lieutenant with the Sheffield Police Department, had been on leave since his arrest in March.
The incident occurred in December 2022 when Dotson, off-duty at the time, pointed a gun at Demarcus Key and hit him. Key, who was unaware of Dotson’s law enforcement status, expressed satisfaction with the verdict. Dotson’s attorney plans to appeal the decision within 14 days.
To further make us feel good about our Alabama Law Enforcement Community, Dotson has previously pleaded guilty to domestic violence charges and was sentenced to 90 days in jail, but the sentence was suspended for two years, during which time he was required to go through a batterers’ intervention program. (For some strange reason, the previous guilty plea appears to have been omitted from reports by other media outlets.)
