The National Weather Service in Birmingham anticipates the possibility of snow in much of northern most Alabama towards the end of the week.
In North Alabama, there’s approximately a 20% chance of experiencing small amounts of snow on Thursday night and Friday. Moving a bit further north to Alabama’s DeKalb County, the chances increase slightly, with a 30% chance for snow on Thursday and a 20% chance on Friday.
Snow predictions in Alabama are inherently challenging due to the various factors necessary for frozen precipitation.
The focus is on Thursday night and Friday as a cold core upper low traverses the Tennessee Valley. Daytime temperatures are expected to be in the 40s, indicating a brief lifespan for any accumulating snowfall. Models suggest less than half an inch in Alabama.
At present, substantial accumulation or impact seems improbable due to surface temperatures generally above freezing, warm soil conditions, and limited moisture. However, it’s worth noting that cold core upper lows, as often emphasized, can be unpredictable, bringing unexpected surprises. Stay tuned for any changes in the forecast.
