Alabama is currently experiencing several days of near 100-degree temperatures, with the heat already visible everywhere. Visitors and residents alike are feeling the intensity, describing it as dangerously hot.
Homeowners are relying heavily on their air conditioning units, but Alabama News Beacon warns that this can lead to extremely high energy bills.
To help save on costs, we advise the following:
- Checking doors and windows for proper closure,
- Using weather stripping to prevent cool air from escaping,
- Setting thermostats to 78-degrees is recommended,
- utilizing smart thermostats that adjust temperatures based on occupancy,
- Replacing air filters regularly,
- Use ceiling fans,
- Hang light-colored curtains to reflect sunlight.
Your utility company may offer additional tools for customers to track energy usage and by which you can receive high bill alerts.
