OB-GYNs Worried about Effects of Abortion Ruling

A recent survey revealed that most OB-GYNs are concerned about the effects of revoking the federal right to an abortion. The survey included hundreds of practicing OB-GYNs from across the country who were asked about their experiences since the Supreme Court decision last year. More than two-thirds of the respondents reported that the ruling has worsened their ability to respond to pregnancy-related emergencies and exacerbated pregnancy-related mortality.
The survey also found that about a quarter of OB-GYNs had patients who were unable to get the abortion they wanted, with half of those patients living in states where abortion is banned. In addition, over a third of doctors surveyed said that it has become increasingly difficult to practice within the standards of medical care. Many are also concerned that this will make it harder to attract new OB-GYNs to the field.
Overall, the survey highlights the significant impact that revoking the federal right to an abortion could have on the medical community and on women’s health.
