Birmingham City Schools Summer Feeding Program Begins at Almost 50 Community Sites

Birmingham City Schools is launching their summer food program this week, providing free meals to children at almost 50 different sites across the community. The program aims to reach thousands of kids and includes sites in each housing authority, with locations starting on June 12, as well as sites at every BCS school, starting on June 14. The program will serve free meals at High Schools, K-8 schools, and the Birmingham Housing Authorities, with 41 different sites spread throughout the community to reach as many children as possible. According to Michelle Sailes, Birmingham City Schools Child Nutrition Director, the need for food in the summertime is even greater than during the school year. The program is open to anyone under the age of 18, regardless of enrollment status or location. Each site has different mealtimes and ending times, but many will be open throughout July.
